Bombers Perform Well At Saydel Invite

The men's cross country team finished 3rd at the Saydel Invitational Meet on Thursday.  Jace Beall led the Bombers with a time of 18:04 good enough for a 6th place finish.  Zane Charter finished 10th for the Bombers with a time of 18:18 followed by Chase Winterboer who finished 12th in a time of 18:32.

Comments From Head Coach Scott Barth:

"Much like the girls, we ran really well on the guys side also.  Jace Beall ran the best race of his career finishing 6th overall in a time of 18:04.  Zane Charter followed suit with his personal record in a time of 18:18.  They were followed closely by Chase Winterboer (18:32), Carter Thompson (18:34) and Gage Long (18:53) to close out our scorers.  Owen Zunkel (19:27) and Seth Wohlgemuth (19:32) closed out our varsity line-up."
"I was most impressed with the efforts that Jace and Zane put forth.  Jace battled some illness and is now finally nearing 100%.  Zane also had a recent illness and has trained himself back into shape.  Chase and Carter continue to be consistent top 5 runners for us and Gage Long continues to emerge over the last 4-5 meets as a legitimate varsity contender."
"It's also encouraging to note that our top 5 runners included 1 freshman, 2 sophomores and 2 juniors.  Also, there was also only 1 senior in our top 10.  I think we are becoming healthier and in turn more competitive as a team.  We gained 25+ points on North Polk from earlier in the season at the meet tonight.  The boys are running with more confidence towards the top of our line-up and that points toward improvement heading into conference and district.  As I said before, we want to finish strong these last two meets so we can have a definite direction next year.  We are a young team and have good potential with proper training and dedication."

The Bombers are back in action on Monday, October 9 when they compete at the Raccoon River Conference Meet at Winterset.  The meet will feature the middle school, junior varsity, and varsity and will start at 4:00 PM.
