Bombers Place Fourth In RRC Meet

The men's cross country team placed fourth at the Raccoon River Conference Meet in Winterset.  Jace Beall placed 11th for the Bombers running in a time of 17:32.  Nathan Wuestenberg and Ryan Ledet started out moderately and then progressively moved up against conference competition to finish in the 22nd and 23rd spots.  Chase Winterboer used a similar strategy to finish 27th.  Carter Thompson started out strong, struggled a bit in the middle and came back strong for a 29th place finish.  Gage Long really accelerated throughout the race to finish 31st and Zane Charter, last weeks #2, rounded out scoring with a 33rd place finish.  The Bombers scored 112 team points.  Carlisle won the meet scoring 33 team points.

Comments From Head Coach Scott Barth:

"The highlight of the boys race was Jace Beall finishing in 11th to become an all-conference performer.  If anyone is peaking at the right time and running with confidence it is Jace.  He ran the best time of his career and really paced a good effort by the boys."
"As I said, Jace is becoming our most consistent runner and becoming the team leader on the course.  Our pack continues to be pretty tight and our 2-7 runners all finished within 45 seconds of one another."
"We will work the next 10 days to finish strong. We are developing as a team and have a nice core of dedicated, hardworking runners. All our varsity runners from this meet are underclassmen and show promise.  We need to approach this last period of the season as a beginning of something bigger for next season.  If we can get this core of 10-12 underclassmen to really attack the summer miles leading into next season, we can take the final step forward and move up in the team standings.  I'm optimistic we can make that happen - these are a great group of guys and I am proud of the steps we are making."

The Bombers are back in action on Thursday, October 19 when they compete at the state qualifying meet in Atlantic.  The meet will start at 4:00 PM.
