The Ballard men's cross country team competed in the Roy Griak Invitaitonal in Minneapolis on Saturday and placed 46th overall out of 62 teams. The Bombers were led by Jack Chism who finished 165th overall in a time of 18:53.9. Chris Lee placed 175th and Austin Shoen finished 251st with times of 18:57.5 and 19:32.3.
Comments From Head Coach Scott Barth:
"The boys also ran a solid race in the maroon division. Our goal for the boys was to experience a big meet. We targeted a top 50 finish and we accomplished that goal with many of the runners getting solid times on this challenging course. I saw a lot of fight in the guys and think we learned a few things today.
The boys were led by Jack Chism who continues to improve as a runner. His 165th place finish was followed closely by Chris Lee who crossed the line with a 175th place finish. He was somewhat disappointed with his run as he has been a steady athlete for us, but it's all part of the learning process - he is young and has excellent potential. Austin Shoen and Jace Beall ran close together (8 seconds apart) to finish in 251st and 269th place. Dante Jones closed out scoring with a strong second half of the race to finish in the 330th place.
This was a good experience for our guys. I do see some of our young runners growing and showing potential for the future. We will continue to move forward and I expect the race next week in Perry to be a good meet for us. We have shown some good things over the last two meets and I think we will continue to improve heading into the last ⅓ of the season."
The Bombers are back in action on Thursday, October 3 when they compete at the Perry Invitational. The middle school, junior varsity, high school will compete. The meet will start at 4:15 PM.
