Bombers Take Third At Nevada Invitational

Bombers Take Third At Nevada Invitational

The women's cross country team placed third in the Nevada Invitational on Tuesday night at Hickory Grove.  Ellie Twedt paced the Bombers placing 2nd overall with a time of 19:33.  She finished less than a second behind Aubrie Fisher from Iowa Falls-Alden/AGWSR who won the meet.  Summer McVicker finished 11th for the Bombers with a time of 21:06.  Caitlin Maher (13th), Rachel Wohlgemuth (14th), Josie Fleischmann (16th), Hailey Cole (22nd), and Anna Zielke (24th) rounded out the scoring for the Bombers.

Comments From Head Coach Scott Barth:

"The girls ran well coming off a full week of no competition for the varsity. Ellie Twedt continued to show improvement with a second place finish.  She had the lead until the very end and was passed heading into the finish.  She did, however, beat Lesher from North Polk for the first time this season.  The friendly rivalry between these two girls is fun to watch as they are both excellent runners and competitors.  Summer maintained her second spot on varsity finishing 11th overall.  She has been battling some respiratory issues of late and wasn't in prime form, but ran a solid race nonetheless.  Freshman Caitlin Maher and sophomore Rachel Wohlgemuth placed 13th and 14th followed by another freshman Josie Fleischmann in 16th, Hailey Cole in 22nd and Anna Zielke stepped up into varsity competition with a 24th place finish.  We were without Lauren Matthews tonight, who had worked her way into our 3rd/4th spots on varsity, so that might have affected us somewhat, but we expect her back for next meet. We want to see our 2-7 runners maintain a closer distance to Ellie and will be practicing in a way for the next few to accomplish that goal. We are definitely a good team, losing only to two other ranked teams in fairly close fashion, but I feel we have more to give and develop into by conference, regional and state. Knowing the girls work ethic and love of running/team - we will get it together and be ready to compete at a high level."

The Bombers are back in action on Monday, October 2 when they compete at the Norwalk Invitational.  The meet will feature the middle school, junior varsity, and varsity and start at 4:15 PM.
