Bombers Topple Mustangs, Even Season Record
Ballard Defeats Dallas Center-Grimes 31-17
The Ballard football team secured a 31-17 victory over Dallas Center-Grimes on Friday, leveling their season record at 2-2. In a balanced performance, the Bombers' offense and defense both made key contributions to the win.
Senior quarterback Mason Gatchel completed 10 of 18 passes for 116 yards, although he was held without a touchdown and threw one interception. Gatchel also contributed on the ground with 15 rushing yards and one touchdown. Running back Rhett Hedrick carried the ball 13 times for 88 yards, including a touchdown. Jude Gibson added another dynamic element to the rushing attack with 54 yards on six carries, including a 12-yard touchdown run, as the Bombers accumulated 186 total rushing yards.
Through the air, Eric Sydnes led the Bombers' receiving corps with four catches for 70 yards. Gibson followed with three receptions for 40 yards, helping the Bombers maintain offensive balance.
On defense, Jackson Wacha was a force, recording 10 total tackles, including three sacks and five tackles for loss. Tucker Vitzthum added five solo tackles and an interception, while Blake Brendeland contributed two tackles for loss.
The Bombers' defense also forced a crucial fumble, recovered by Caden Anderson, which was converted into a touchdown.
Sam Hoffman excelled on special teams, nailing a 33-yard field goal and converting all four extra points. Hoffman also handled kickoffs, with six for 316 yards, including one touchback.
The Bombers (2-2, 0-0 in conference play) will host Indianola on September 27, with a 7:00 PM kickoff.
