Bombers Dominate Boone, Secure Playoff Berth
Ballard Defeats Boone 42-0
The Ballard football team capped their regular season in dominant fashion, shutting out the Boone Toreadors with a decisive 42-0 victory.
Sophomore quarterback Bryce Miller led the Bombers' passing attack, completing 5 of 6 attempts for 142 yards and a touchdown. Senior Mason Gatchel also contributed significantly, going 8 of 12 for 124 yards and a touchdown. In total, the Bombers amassed 266 passing yards, with two passing touchdowns and a 72.2% completion rate.
On the ground, the Bombers pounded their way to 148 yards, with four rushing touchdowns spread across the team. Senior Rhett Hedrick was particularly effective, scoring two touchdowns on just five carries for 22 yards, while Tucker Vitzthum and Jude Gibson each contributed a touchdown as well. Gatchel's six carries for 54 yards helped maintain strong field positioning, consistently pressuring the Boone defense.
Receiving highlights included Gatchel, who also made an impact as a receiver with three catches for 110 yards and a touchdown, including a 55-yard catch. Junior Jude Gibson recorded four catches for 87 yards and a score, showcasing his versatility across offense.
Ballard's defense was rock-solid throughout the game, holding Boone scoreless and collecting 60 total tackles. Senior Jackson Wacha anchored the defensive unit with a game-high 14.5 tackles, including one sack and three tackles for loss. Juniors Chase Ihle and Rhett Hedrick also contributed heavily, recording nine and 5.5 tackles respectively. The Bombers' defense disrupted Boone's offense, allowing little room for advancement.
The Bombers also forced a fumble, recovered by Vitzthum, and grabbed an interception.
With the win, Ballard advances to face #4 Lewis Central in the playoffs. Kickoff is set for 7:00 PM.
