Bombers Dominate In Win Over Comets
#1 Ballard Defeats North Polk 77-44
The top-ranked Ballard men's basketball team continued their strong start to the season with a dominant 77-44 victory over North Polk on Friday night. From the opening tip, the Bombers showed why they hold the #1 spot in Class 3A, taking control early and maintaining the momentum throughout the game.
The Bombers exploded in the first quarter with a 28-point outburst, setting the tone with their offensive efficiency and defensive intensity. They extended their lead to 54-25 by halftime, holding North Polk to just 13 second-quarter points. The Bomber's defense remained stingy in the second half, limiting the Comets to only six points in the third quarter while continuing to capitalize on scoring opportunities.
Junior Jude Gibson led the way for the Bombers with 20 points on an efficient 7-of-11 shooting, including 5-of-5 from the free-throw line. Gibson also tallied five assists and three steals, playing a key role on both ends of the court. Jackson Brown was a sharp shooter, scoring 12 points on 5-of-6 shooting and knocking down both of his three-point attempts.
Easton Ersland contributed a well-rounded performance with 13 points, six rebounds, and two steals, while Parker Miller showcased his defensive skills, pulling down five rebounds to go along with four steals and three assists.
Ballard shot an impressive 58.5% from the field as a team, including 83.3% from the free-throw line (10-of-12). While they hit just 5-of-18 from beyond the arc (27.8%), their relentless work inside the paint and on defense made the difference, forcing turnovers and converting them into scoring opportunities.
The Bombers (4-0, 3-0 RRC) look to keep their undefeated streak alive as they return home to face Raccoon River Conference rival Carlisle on December 17. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 PM.
