Bombers Defense Fuels Lopsided Win at Xtream Arena
Ballard Defeats Williamsburg 72-39
The Ballard men's basketball team continued its strong start to the season on Saturday at Xtream Arena in Coralville, rolling past Williamsburg 72–39 in a dominant performance on a neutral floor.
Ballard set the tone early, jumping out to a 22–13 lead after the first quarter and tightening the defense in the second period. The Bombers held Williamsburg to just six points in the quarter, extending the margin to 39–19 at halftime. Ballard maintained control throughout the second half, outscoring the Raiders 21–10 in the third quarter to put the game firmly out of reach.
Junior Evan Abbott led all scorers with 26 points on an efficient 9-of-13 shooting, knocking down two three-pointers and going a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line. Senior Jude Gibson added 17 points, shooting 7-of-12 from the floor and contributing four assists and three steals. The Bombers showcased balance and depth, with multiple players contributing on both ends of the floor.
Defensively, Ballard forced turnovers and turned them into points, finishing with 20 steals as a team. Parker Miller led the way defensively with four steals while also pulling down eight rebounds. Mojoe Nybong provided energy off the bench with five points, three assists, and four steals.
Ballard shot 45.8 percent from the field and held Williamsburg to 39 points for the game, highlighting the Bombers' defensive identity. With the win, Ballard improved to 9–0 overall and 7–0 in conference play.
The Bombers return home on Tuesday, January 13, when they host Winterset in the Hangar, with varsity tip scheduled for 7:30 PM.
