Bombers Clamp Down Defensively in RRC Rout
#1 Ballard Defeats North Polk 68-35
The Ballard men's basketball team returned to conference action in decisive fashion Thursday night, earning a 68-35 road win over North Polk in a Raccoon River Conference matchup that was originally scheduled for January 23 before being postponed.
The Bombers opened with an 18-10 first quarter, establishing defensive pressure and controlling the glass. Ballard expanded the margin in the second period, outscoring North Polk 24-8 to take a commanding 42-18 lead into halftime.
The third quarter followed a similar script. Ballard continued to execute in the half court and convert transition opportunities, winning the frame 19-11 to push the advantage to 61-29 entering the fourth. With the outcome firmly in hand, the Bombers closed out the contest with a 7-6 fourth quarter to secure the 33-point conference victory.
Ballard's defensive performance was the defining factor. The Bombers limited North Polk to single-digit scoring in two of the four quarters and just 35 total points for the game. Consistent ball pressure disrupted passing lanes, while disciplined rotations prevented clean perimeter looks.
With the win, Ballard improves to 19-1 overall and 14-1 in Raccoon River Conference play, positioning itself strongly heading into the final league contest.
Ballard will travel to Winterset on Friday, February 13 for a 7:30 PM tip in the RRC finale.
