Bombers Surge Into Substate Final with Win
#1 Ballard Defeats Des Moines Christian 78-52
The Ballard men's basketball team took another decisive step toward a state tournament berth with a commanding 78–52 victory over Des Moines Christian in the substate semifinal.
Ballard set the tone early, jumping out to a strong first-quarter lead behind efficient offensive execution and disciplined defensive pressure. The Bombers outscored Des Moines Christian 23–15 in the opening frame and never relinquished control.
In the second quarter, Ballard continued to dictate tempo, extending the lead to 37–27 at halftime. Their ability to string together defensive stops and convert in transition created separation, while balanced scoring kept the Lions from keying in on any one offensive threat.
The third quarter proved decisive. Ballard delivered a 23-point period, stretching the advantage to 60–43 heading into the final eight minutes. Crisp ball movement and high-percentage shot selection highlighted the offensive efficiency, while the defense limited Des Moines Christian to just nine fourth-quarter points to seal the 26-point win.
With the victory, Ballard improves to 22–1 on the season and advances to the substate final.
Up Next: Ballard will host Oskaloosa on Monday, March 2 at 7:00 PM at the Hangar, with a trip to the state tournament on the line.
