From the Hangar to the State Stage
#1 Ballard Defeats Oskaloosa 79-45
In a dominant performance from the opening tip, the Ballard men's basketball team secured a 79–45 victory over Oskaloosa in the substate final at the Hangar, advancing to the state tournament and improving to 23–1 on the season.
Ballard established control immediately, opening the game on an aggressive defensive tone that limited Oskaloosa to just seven first-quarter points. The Bombers' ability to pressure the basketball and contest shots fueled transition opportunities on the other end, resulting in a 21–7 lead after one.
The second quarter saw more of the same. Ballard's offensive efficiency was on full display as they executed in the half court and capitalized on second-chance opportunities. A 22-point frame extended the lead to 43–21 at halftime, putting the game firmly in hand.
Coming out of the break, Ballard eliminated any hope of a comeback. The Bombers poured in 24 third-quarter points while continuing to clamp down defensively, stretching the margin to 67–33 heading into the final period. With the outcome decided, the fourth quarter allowed for valuable depth minutes as Ballard closed out the 34-point victory.
Oskaloosa was held to single digits in the opening quarter and never found consistent offensive rhythm against Ballard's disciplined defensive rotations and physical rebounding presence.
The win caps an impressive substate run and sends Ballard to the state quarterfinals with significant momentum.
Ballard will travel to the Casey's Center in Des Moines for the state quarterfinals, where they will face conference rival Gilbert at 10:30 AM on Monday, March 9.
With a 23–1 record and a balanced approach on both ends of the floor, the Bombers now turn their focus to the state stage with an opportunity to continue their postseason run.
