Hosteng Leads Bombers in Competitive 2A State Qualifier
Bombers Host State Qualifying Meet
The Ballard Bombers men's bowling team hosted the Class 2A State Qualifying Meet on Monday at Perfect Games, competing against eight other programs in a format that opened with 15 baker games before shifting to individual competition.
The meet began with baker play, where teams rotate bowlers each frame and depth across the lineup is critical. ADM established control early and maintained it throughout, capturing the baker title with a 3040 total. Waterloo East followed at 2954, with Bondurant-Farrar third at 2913.
Ballard delivered a competitive showing on its home lanes, finishing sixth with a 2826 total. The Bombers opened with a 173 but quickly found rhythm, posting games of 211, 202, and 204 in the middle stretch. Ballard closed strong with a 252 in the final baker game, their highest of the set, demonstrating resilience and execution late in the block.
Oskaloosa finished fourth at 2874, followed by Newton at 2850, Pella at 2800, Norwalk at 2542, and Des Moines Hoover at 1697.
Following baker competition, teams transitioned into three traditional individual games per bowler.
Ballard was led by senior Drake Hosteng, who compiled a 646 series with games of 233, 196, and 217, showing consistency across all three games. Senior Braden Skurdal added a strong 602 series highlighted by a 235 in Game 2, while senior Gage Tapp rolled a 601 that included a 227 in his final game. Senior Stetson Kane contributed a 580, and Carter Sparks added 540 to round out the Bombers' primary scorers.
Across the field, several individuals delivered standout performances.
Waterloo East senior Alex Huntley earned medalist honors with a meet best 761 series on games of 279, 215, and 267. Norwalk senior Tanner Housley followed with a 714 series, including a 251 in his final game.
ADM's Cole Darling posted a 691 series, while teammate Trey Lee added a 682. Waterloo East's Tyler Peterson finished with 674, and Pella's Alex Bishara recorded a 660. Newton's Jeremiah Killmer rolled a 649, and Norwalk's Blake Halsted added a 647 to round out the top eight individual scores.
