Ballard Shoots A 316
PELLA — The Ballard men's golf team is headed to the Class 3A State Tournament after a strong performance Monday at the district meet held at Bos Landen Golf Resort in Pella.
The Bombers finished third overall with a team score of 316, securing one of the three state-qualifying spots alongside champion Pella (310) and runner-up North Polk (314). Newton placed fourth with a 321, followed by Washington (333) and Fairfield (353).
Ballard was led by sophomore Jamin Colvin, who carded a 76 to finish seventh overall individually. Junior Parker Domino added a 78, while freshman Jordan Domino shot an 80.
Junior Alex Weeks shot an 82, and junior Riley Dingel rounded out the scoring five with an 83 as the Bombers held off Newton by five strokes for the final qualifying position.
Ballard's balanced lineup and consistency throughout the round proved critical on a competitive course and in a tightly contested team race.
Pella's Kyler Besick earned medalist honors with an even-par 72, while North Polk's Ty Haisman and Newton's Jackson Price each shot 73.
Ballard will compete at the Class 3A State Tournament on Tuesday and Wednesday, May 26-27, at Gates Park Golf Course in Waterloo.
