Bombers Tested in Fast Turnaround Weekend
Ballard Goes 0-3 In Stretch
The Ballard men's soccer team navigated a demanding three-day stretch this week, playing three matches across Thursday and Saturday that tested both their defensive organization and depth. The week opened on the road Thursday against Central Iowa United in a tightly contested non-conference matchup. After a scoreless first half where both sides defended well and limited quality chances, Central Iowa United broke through in the second half to secure a 1–0 victory.
On Saturday, Ballard traveled to Carroll for a tournament doubleheader that featured two high-level opponents and little recovery time between games. In the opening match, Ballard ran into a strong attack from Denison-Schleswig, falling 7–1 in a game where early pressure and finishing proved decisive. The team did manage to find the net in the second half, but the deficit was too large to overcome against a well-organized opponent. In the second match of the day, Ballard responded with a more competitive showing against Sioux City West. In a back-and-forth contest, Ballard generated more consistent attacking chances and scored three goals, but ultimately came up just short in a 4–3 loss.
Following the 0–3 stretch, Ballard now sits at 6–9–0 overall (4–3–0 in conference play) and turns its attention quickly back to league action. The team will host ADM on Tuesday, May 12, at 5:30 PM in a Raccoon River Conference matchup.
