Bombers Cruise Past Cardinals
Ballard Defeats Newton 11-0
The Ballard Bombers men's tennis team turned in a dominant performance on Thursday, sweeping Newton 11-0 in a home dual that showcased depth, consistency, and control across both singles and doubles play.
Ballard set the tone early in singles competition, winning all six matches while frequently applying pressure in tight sets and closing out key points when it mattered most. The Bombers' top end proved especially strong, with multiple hard-fought victories highlighting their resilience in close situations.
At the top of the lineup, Easton Ersland battled through a tightly contested match before edging Marshall 9-8 (5) in a tiebreak finish. Seth Hilleman followed with an 8-4 win over Freese, while Eli Preston also earned an 8-4 victory against Grayson Main. Zack Ross added another solid result with an 8-4 win over Noah Tremel.
In the middle of the lineup, Chase Krogman delivered an 8-5 win over Bretthauer, and Dylan Marks capped off singles play with a hard-fought 9-7 victory over Comer, securing a clean sweep heading into doubles.
Ballard carried that momentum into doubles play, where the Bombers were equally dominant. The duo of Hilleman and Preston edged Marshall and Freese 9-8 (6) in a competitive match, while Ersland and Ross controlled their match with an 8-2 win over Main and Tremel.
The depth of the Bombers' roster was on full display in the remaining doubles matches. Johannes Nop and Marks defeated Bretthauer and Sweeney 8-2, Krogman and Aksel Peterson won 8-1 over Comer and Springer, and Cameron Allen and Breken Fleischmann closed out the night with an 8-0 shutout victory over Bloom and McPartlin.
With the sweep, Ballard improves to 5-1 on the season, continuing to build momentum through a strong early stretch of dual play.
