Bombers Clamp Down Defensively in Win Over Winterset
Ballard Defeats Winterset 42-27
The Ballard women's basketball team put together a strong all-around performance Tuesday night in the Hangar, earning a 42–27 victory over Winterset in Raccoon River Conference action.
The contest was competitive early, with Winterset holding a slim 12–10 advantage after the first quarter. Ballard responded with its best stretch of the night in the second quarter, outscoring the Huskies 16–6 to take a 26–18 lead into halftime. The Bombers' defensive pressure set the tone, limiting Winterset's scoring opportunities and generating key stops that fueled the momentum swing.
Ballard continued to control the pace in the second half, allowing just nine points over the final two quarters. The Bombers outscored Winterset 8–5 in the third quarter and matched that margin again in the fourth, steadily extending the lead while maintaining defensive discipline.
Balanced scoring and consistent effort throughout the lineup helped Ballard secure the win, as the Bombers capitalized at the free-throw line and limited Winterset to just four points in the final quarter.
With the victory, Ballard improves to 3–9 overall and 3–5 in conference play.
Ballard will look to carry that momentum into its next contest on Friday, January 16, when the Bombers host RRC opponent Bondurant-Farrar. Tipoff is scheduled for 6:00 PM in the Hangar.
