The second day of the State Wrestling Meet was filled with intense action as Ballard wrestlers fought through both the quarterfinals and consolation rounds, earning valuable team points. With standout performances from multiple competitors, Ballard currently sits at 38.0 team points heading into Day #3.
Quarterfinal Highlights
2A-120: Easton Enyeart (34-3)
Easton Enyeart continued his strong tournament run, securing a hard-fought 4-1 decision over Colt Boyles (Burlington Notre Dame) in the quarterfinals. This victory pushed him into the semifinals and solidified his place on the podium.
2A-138: Jacob Harrison (40-8)
After an impressive run through the first two rounds, Jacob Harrison faced a tough matchup in the quarterfinals against Landen Davis (Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont), falling by tech fall (16-1) at 4:26. Despite the setback, Harrison remains in contention through the consolation bracket.
2A-165: Tucker Vitzthum (39-4)
One of Ballard's top performers, Tucker Vitzthum delivered a dominant quarterfinal performance, pinning Adam Baier (Red Oak) in 3:22 to advance. His strong showing has helped boost Ballard's overall team score.
2A-190: Rhett Hedrick (36-5)
After a solid start to the tournament, Rhett Hedrick ran into a tough challenge in the quarterfinals, falling to Brenden Heying (Benton Community) by tech fall (17-1) at 4:30. Hedrick now looks to fight through the consolation rounds.
Consolation Round 2 Recap
2A-150: Jayden Leland (20-17) - Eliminated
Leland battled through the consolation bracket after an opening-round loss but ultimately fell in the second round to Gavin Gerbracht (Dike-New Hartford) by tech fall (16-0) at 4:30, ending his state tournament run.
2A-215: Jackson Wacha (30-8) - Eliminated
Wacha picked up a strong win in the opening round but was knocked into the consolation bracket after falling to Henry Christensen (North Polk). In the second round of consolations, he lost by major decision (11-3) to Troy Kupka (Benton Community), bringing his tournament to a close.
Ballard wrestlers will return to the mat on Friday, February 21, at 6:00 PM for the next round of competition. With Enyeart and Vitzthum securing podium finishes and other wrestlers battling in the consolation rounds, there's still plenty of action ahead for the Bombers.
