Wrestlers Compete on Final Day of State Tournament

DES MOINES – The final day of the Class 2A Iowa State Wrestling Tournament saw Ballard High School wrestlers battling for championships and podium placements, capping off a successful season with standout performances.
Vitzthum Finishes Runner-Up at 165 Pounds
Ballard's Tucker Vitzthum (40-5) showcased an impressive run through the 165-pound bracket, dominating his way into the finals. After securing a first-round bye, Vitzthum displayed his offensive prowess with back-to-back technical falls and a pin in the quarterfinals. He continued his dominance in the semifinals with another technical fall over Degan Miller of Greene County.
In the championship match, Vitzthum faced off against top-seeded Bo Koedam (53-2) of Sergeant Bluff-Luton. Koedam controlled the match, ultimately claiming the title with a 16-1 technical fall in 5:38. Despite the loss, Vitzthum's efforts earned him a second-place finish.
Enyeart Falls Just Short in 120-Pound Title Match
Easton Enyeart (35-4) also made a strong push for a state title in the 120-pound division. After receiving a first-round bye, Enyeart dominated his early matches, securing a technical fall and two close decision victories to earn his spot in the finals.
In the championship bout, Enyeart faced Brayden Bohnsack (50-4) of Union, LaPorte City, in a tightly contested match. Despite a valiant effort, Enyeart fell just short, dropping a 3-2 decision. His runner-up finish capped off an outstanding season.
Hedrick Secures Seventh-Place Finish at 190 Pounds
Senior Rhett Hedrick (38-6) closed out his high school wrestling career on a high note, securing seventh place in the 190-pound division. After an early tech fall victory in the second round, Hedrick was forced into the consolation bracket following a loss to Brenden Heying of Benton Community in the quarterfinals.
Undeterred, Hedrick rebounded with another technical fall before a heartbreaking sudden victory loss to Thomas Sexton of Decorah in the fifth-round consolation match. In the seventh-place bout, Hedrick wasted no time, pinning Cael Moore (41-11) of Williamsburg in just 33 seconds to earn his podium spot.
Ballard's Overall Performance
Ballard wrapped up the state tournament with a strong showing, placing 11th overall in Class 2A. With two state finalists and a seventh-place finisher, the Bombers demonstrated their ability to compete at the highest level.
The tournament marked the end of an exciting season, as Ballard wrestlers left it all on the mat and solidified their place among the state's best.
