Wrestling Opens Season at Competitive Gilbert Quad
Ballard Goes 1-2 On The Night
The Ballard men's wrestling team opened its season Thursday night at the Gilbert Quad, finishing 1-2 while showcasing strong performances throughout the lineup.
The Bombers started the night with a dominant 51-21 conference victory over Gilbert, fueled by eight pins and steady scoring across the board. Ballard's momentum began early, with Gabe Rhiner earning a fall at 113 pounds before a string of pins from Nolan Adams, Easton Enyeart, and Kyle Rhiner quickly widened the margin. Grayson Hedrick delivered the fastest pin of the dual in just 25 seconds at 144, while Caleb Hyman added another fall at 150. A thrilling 12-11 win by Carter Jeffs at 157 kept the Bombers rolling, and late pins from Greyson Ehresman and Leif Jorgensen secured the convincing win.
In their second dual, the Bombers fell 38-27 to Humboldt in a competitive non conference matchup. Despite strong wins from the middle weights, highlighted by a technical fall from Enyeart, a pin from Adams, and a major decision from Hedrick, Ballard could not overcome Humboldt's advantage in bonus points and forfeits. Jeffs remained sharp with a 12-8 win at 157, and Davidson and Askelsen provided tough efforts, but Humboldt's late surge proved decisive.
Ballard closed the night with a 46-29 loss to Roland Story, once again showing strength in the middle of the lineup. Adams and Enyeart continued their impressive nights with another fall and a technical fall, while Hedrick added a pin at 144 and Jeffs recorded a 39 second fall at 157. Askelsen also contributed a fall at 165. However, Roland Story matched Ballard's offensive output with several falls of their own, allowing them to pull away.
The Bombers were anchored by standout performances from Adams, Enyeart, Hedrick, and Jeffs, each finishing the night undefeated and consistently delivering bonus points.
Ballard now sits at 1-2 overall and 1-0 in conference action. The team will look to build on its early season success when it travels to the Newton Tournament on Saturday, December 6 with action beginning at 10:00 AM.
