Enyeart, Jeffs Punch State Tickets
Ballard Scores 65 Team Points
The Ballard men's wrestling hosted the Class 2A District 1 Tournament on Saturday, welcoming seven visiting programs for a full day of high-level postseason competition.
As a team, Ballard finished seventh with 65 points in a field led by Alburnett (211), followed by Mount Vernon (185) and Woodward-Granger Hawks (171.5). Roland-Story (97.5), Perry (96.5), North Polk (77.5), and Van Meter (28) rounded out the standings.
Ballard was highlighted by a district championship performance at 132 pounds from Easton Enyeart. Entering the tournament at 32-4, Enyeart dominated his bracket, earning a technical fall in the semifinals over Mount Vernon's Jake Shady (19-4 in 1:50) before securing the title with a 13-1 major decision over Alburnett's Kam Roberts. Enyeart scored 20.5 team points and punched his ticket to the state tournament.
At 150 pounds, Carter Jeffs turned in a strong runner-up finish. Jeffs advanced to the finals with a 9-1 major decision in the semifinals before falling to North Polk's Cael Cotter in the championship match. Jeffs contributed 15 team points and secured a state berth.
Greyson Ehresman battled back through the consolation bracket at 190 pounds to place third. After dropping his quarterfinal, Ehresman responded with a fall in the consolation semifinals and an 11-8 decision over Mount Vernon's Luke Robinson in the third-place match, adding 11 team points.
Kyle Rhiner placed fourth at 144 pounds, recording two falls in the consolation rounds to reach the third-place match and scoring 10 team points for the Bombers.
Additional team points came from Nolan Adams (120), Grayson Hedrick (138), Jayden Leland (165), and Leif Jorgensen (215), each contributing in the championship and consolation rounds against a deep district field.
Ballard will now turn its focus to the state tournament at Casey's Center in Des Moines beginning Thursday, February 19 at 2:30 PM, where Enyeart and Jeffs will represent the Bombers on the Class 2A stage.
