Women’s Soccer Falls to Railsplitters in High-Energy Matchup
Des Moines Lincoln Defeats Ballard 4-2
The Ballard women's soccer team kicked off their latest home match with a burst of momentum, but despite the early spark, they ultimately fell to Des Moines Lincoln by a final score of 4-2 on Friday evening.
Maci Harder gave Ballard an explosive start, scoring just 49 seconds into the match to give the Bombers an early 1-0 lead. The Railsplitters responded quickly.
Led by senior Evelyn Soto-Contreras, Des Moines Lincoln surged to a 3-1 lead by halftime. Soto-Contreras was unstoppable on the attack, netting four goals on six shots on goal, finishing the night with a sharp 36.4% shooting percentage. Marlene Diaz added an assist and contributed to the Railsplitters' dominant first-half performance.
The Bombers battled back in the second half, adding another goal to cut the deficit, but Des Moines Lincoln held strong. Despite multiple offensive pushes and 10 shots on goal, the Bombers couldn't close the gap, thanks in large part to Lincoln's sophomore goalkeeper Yazzlin Lucero, who recorded 10 saves and maintained an impressive 83.3% save percentage.
Ballard's defensive effort and second-half energy showed promise, but the early flurry from Lincoln proved too much to overcome.
The Bombers look to bounce back on the road Monday, April 7, as they travel to take on Gilbert at 5:30 PM.
