Women's Tennis Opens Season with Tough Loss to Pella
Pella Defeats Ballard 11-0
The Ballard women's tennis team kicked off their 2025 campaign with a challenging matchup against a strong Pella squad on Monday afternoon. Despite competitive efforts across several courts, the Bombers fell 11-0 to the Dutch in their season opener.
Pella showcased their depth and experience throughout the meet, sweeping both singles and doubles matches. The Bombers fought hard, especially in some close contests in the middle of the lineup. In the No. 3 singles match, Alaina Severson took the second set from Sydney Namminga but came up short in the tiebreaker, 10-3. Similarly, Kayley Gardner pushed Reagan DeJong to a tiebreak in the first set before DeJong took control in the second.
In doubles action, Ballard showed signs of strong chemistry and resilience. The No. 4 doubles team of Addison VanWyk and Sierra Leathers battled through a back-and-forth three-set match, narrowly falling in a close tiebreaker, 11-9. The rest of the Pella doubles teams proved to be a step ahead, winning their matches in straight sets.
Although the Bombers come away from this match with an 0-1 record, the early season experience against a top-tier team like Pella offers valuable insight and growth opportunities for Ballard moving forward.
