Comments From Head Coach Scott Barth:
"We were missing some key athletes tonight due to having the Drake Relays in the morning. This led us to switch some line-ups or eliminate a few events all together.
The highlight of the night came from freshman Ava Vance in the 3,000 meter as she won the race in a time of 11:37. There was a bit of a breeze, but she went out and led the whole way shaking the 2nd place runner from Gilbert in the last 100 meters. Ava has a passion for the 3,000 meters and is developing.
The 4x200 meter relay team of Natalie Maher, Carley Wilson, Molly Ihle, and Kate Tollefson turned in a good performance running a time of 1:54.85 which placed them 2nd in the meet. This is just off of their season best time and showed promise.
Kate Miller showed consistency in the long jump placing 3rd with a jump of 15'1", which is her second meet in a row over the 15 foot barrier. The shuttle hurdle relay also showed their consistency running a season best time of 1:17.11 which also placed them 3rd in a good field. Kate Huisinga also picked up a 3rd place finish with a time of 5:25, which completed a tough double coming back from a great 800 meter leg at the Drake Relays 11 hours earlier.
Overall, I would not say it was our greatest meet of the season, but I saw good effort out of the girls and many running on tired legs hampered by minor injuries. We have our last regular season meet on Monday at Saydel before having a nine day break to get some training in before conference meet."
