Bombers Battle to Runner-Up Finish at Nevada Tournament
Ballard Goes 4-2 On The Day
The Ballard Bombers volleyball team put on a strong performance at the Nevada Tournament, finishing as runner-up after a series of intense matches, including two hard-fought contests against the #4-ranked Clear Creek Amana. The Bombers demonstrated grit and resilience, going 4-2 on the day, pushing their overall record to 11-11 (2-2 in conference play).
Ballard opened the tournament with a tough match against #4 Clear Creek Amana, falling 21-16, 21-18 in straight sets. Despite the loss, the Bombers bounced back quickly with dominating wins against Lake Mills (21-10, 21-8) and Iowa Falls-Alden (21-10, 21-16).
The Bombers then faced a challenge from Winterset in the gold bracket quarterfinals, dropping the first set 13-21 before rallying to take the next two sets 21-12 and 15-8, securing the match 2-1. In their next contest against Wapsie Valley in the semifinals, Ballard continued to show their fight, overcoming a tight second set loss to prevail 2-1 (21-17, 21-23, 15-12).
Ballard met #4 Clear Creek Amana again in the tournament final. After winning the first set 21-18, the Sailors fought back to win the second set 21-19. However, in a dramatic third set, they narrowly fell 15-10, settling for a 2-1 loss and a second-place finish.
With a 4-2 showing at the Nevada Tournament, the Bombers now sit at an even .500 on the season, eager to build on their momentum. Up next, Ballard returns home to face Carroll in a Raccoon River Conference matchup on Tuesday, October 1, starting at 5:30 PM.
