Volleyball Sweeps Tigers to Stay Atop Conference
Ballard Defeats Carroll 3-0
Carroll, IA – The Ballard volleyball team kept rolling Tuesday night, sweeping Carroll on the road in convincing fashion (25–20, 25–16, 25–17). The victory pushed the Bombers to 15–7 overall and a perfect 5–0 in Raccoon River Conference action.
Ballard's balanced offense powered the win, with senior Emersyn Engstler leading the way. Engstler finished with 17 kills on 33 swings, hitting .424. Sophomore Kendall Ersland added 11 kills, while senior Brenna Baumgardner chipped in eight more. Junior Harley Askelsen was efficient at the net, tallying five kills and a .417 hitting percentage.
Junior setter Hailey Estrem orchestrated the attack with an impressive 42 assists, averaging 14 per set. Estrem also added five kills of her own, hitting .500 on the night.
On the defensive side, junior Halle Gardner anchored the back row with 17 digs, while Estrem, junior Malia Miller, and junior Addison Hosteng each added seven digs apiece. At the net, Askelsen and Norah Mudd teamed up for two blocks each to help slow Carroll's attack.
Ballard's serving was sharp and steady, finishing with a 97.3% efficiency rate as a team. Gardner and Baumgardner each tallied an ace, while Estrem was a perfect 19-for-19 from the line.
Head coach, Erica Dunkin praised the team noting how the Bombers kept the pressure on throughout the match and spread the ball effectively across multiple hitters.
With the sweep, Ballard remains atop the RRC standings. The Bombers return home Tuesday, October 7, for a key conference matchup against North Polk at 5:30 PM.
