Women’s Wrestling Falls on Criteria, Bounces Back with Two Wins
Go 2-2 On The Night
The Ballard women's wrestling team competed in a challenging quad at Winterset, earning two dual victories while dropping two close contests against strong competition. Ballard finished the night with wins over Martensdale-St. Marys (41–30) and host Winterset (39–30), while falling to Ogden (48–30) and Central Decatur (37–36), the latter decided by criteria after a tied team score.
The closest dual of the night came against Central Decatur, where the teams finished deadlocked at 36–36. Despite several key pins from Ballard, including falls by Evelyn Faubus at 125 pounds, Kentley Wierson at 135, Amalia Olson at 145, and Valentina Gutierres at 190, Ballard ultimately lost the dual on criteria.
Ballard responded well in its next matchup, defeating Martensdale-St. Marys 41–30. Faubus continued her strong performance with a technical fall at 120 pounds, while Ballard picked up multiple forfeit victories and pins from Esther Wilson, Charlee Neer, Kara Moos, Kentley Wierson, and Felicity Sharp to secure the team win.
Against Ogden, Ballard earned notable victories from Faubus at 125 pounds, Wierson at 140 with a quick fall, and Felicity Sharp and Amalia Olson through forfeits. However, Ogden's depth and several falls proved to be the difference in the 48–30 loss.
The evening concluded with a solid 39–30 win over Winterset. Ballard opened strong with pins from Kacey Smith at 110, Evelyn Faubus at 120, Charlee Neer at 130, Kara Moos at 135, and Amalia Olson at 155. Emarie Pearson also contributed a hard-fought 6–5 decision at 115 pounds to help Ballard pull away in the team score.
On the night, Faubus, Wierson, Olson, Neer, Moos, and Sharp were key contributors, combining for multiple pins and bonus-point victories across all four duals.
Ballard now holds a 2–5 record on the season and will look to build momentum this weekend when they compete at the Clarinda Tournament on Saturday, January 3, with wrestling set to begin at 10:00 AM.
